The city council of Amsterdam has adopted a proposal to close the cruise ship terminal near the main train station in a bid to curb pollution and limit the number of tourists. Amsterdam councilor Ilana Rooderkerk, whose party initiated the proposal, has said that "the polluting cruise" does not match the city's sustainable ambitions. "In addition, cruise ships in the city center do not fit into Amsterdam's assignment to reduce the number of tourists. In other words, Amsterdam sails better without the cruise," she said in a statement. Around 20 million tourists visit Amsterdam every year.
