Tenerife Wildfire Prompts Evacuations And Road Closures

A firefighting helicopter works to extinguish a forest fire on August 16, 2023 in Tenerife, Spain. Last night a forest fire broke out in Tenerife between the towns of Candelaria and Arafo. What has forced to evacuate the municipalities of Arrate, Chivisaye, Media Montaña and Ajafoña. In addition, the roads TF 23 between Las Lagunetas and El Portillo and the TF 523 Carretera Los Loros have been cut, informed the Cabildo de Tenerife. For the moment, 180 hectares have been affected and 13 aerial means are working in the extinction tasks. The Government of the Canary Islands has requested to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge the mobilization of three seaplanes to fight the fire.
