(230901) -- KUNMING, Sept. 1, 2023 (Xinhua) -- People visit an exhibition hall for the Stilwell Road at the Memorial for Anti-Japanese War in Western Yunnan in Tengchong, southwest China's Yunnan Province, Aug. 31, 2023. Linking the northeastern Indian town of Ledo and Yunnan's provincial capital Kunming via Tengchong, the 1,726-km-long Stilwell Road was named after American WWII General Joseph Stilwell. Dubbed a "lifeline for the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression," more than 50,000 tonnes of supplies were transported to battlefields in China during the war by the Stilwell Road. Stilwell was a former U.S. general who helped the Chinese government and people during the fight against Japanese aggression. During his 42-year military service, Stilwell made five visits to China and resided in the country for 12 years.
