Cutting And Selling Flor De Calabaza (Squash Blossom) In Mexico

Mrs. Luci Padron, a farmer and merchant, sells pumpkin flowers in the streets and establishments in the Tlahuac mayor's office, Mexico City. The squash flower is bright and colorful, and is extremely short-lived, with some species only opening for one day. The characteristic yellow-orange pigment of the pumpkin flower indicates that it contains flavonoids, compounds that function as antioxidants, which inhibit the oxidation of artery-clogging bad cholesterol.
