"During its 45th session, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially approved the inclusion of Djerba Island on its list during a meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia," said a ministry statement. As the largest island off North Africa, Djerba is known for its religious diversity and is influenced by Berber, Arab, Jewish and African cultures. The ministry said that Djerba Island takes the number of Tunisian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List to nine. Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Tunis. (XHTV)
