U.S. Naval Power On Display In Mediterranean Sea

Handout photo dated November 3, 2023 shows the aircraft carriers USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), front, and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) lead ships from their carrier strike groups, including U.S. Sixth Fleet command ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), and Italian navy frigates Carlo Margottini (F 592) and Virginio Fasan (F 591) during a formation transit of the Mediterranean Sea. The Pentagon has deployed two aircraft carriers, and their supporting ships, to the eastern Mediterranean since the attacks on Israel. The ships are meant as a deterrent to ensure the conflict does not expand, but bring a significant amount of power to a region that already hosts a number of U.S. military ships, planes and troops.
