Vandalized Jewish memorial plaque

20.11.2023, Tartu. A memorial plaque placed in June, marking the location of a synagogue destroyed in 1944. After the Second World War, the Soviet authorities did not allow the Jewish community to be restored in Tartu. Over the weekend the memorial plaque was bent and scribbled with swastika and number 88, which is a white supremacist numerical code for Heil Hitler. Photo: Kristjan Teedema/Tartu Postimees
