Dutch Colonial Artifacts Return To Colombo, Sri Lanka

Sri Lankans are viewing a ''Maha Thuwakkuwa'' and two firearms during a public exhibition at the National Museum in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on December 6, 2023, after these items were returned by the Netherlands. The Dutch government recently returned six cultural artifacts to Sri Lanka that had been plundered from the ancient Kandyan kingdom in 1765 by Dutch colonialists. These artifacts, which belonged to the Kandy royal family, include Lewke's cannon, two gold kastanes (ceremonial swords), a silver kastane, a Sinhalese dagger, and two firearms.
