Dutch Colonial Artifacts Return To Colombo, Sri Lanka

School children are waiting in a queue inside the National Museum during a public exhibition in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on December 6, 2023, where cultural artifacts were returned by the Netherlands. The Dutch government returned six cultural artifacts to Sri Lanka last Monday, which were plundered from the ancient Kandyan kingdom in 1765 by Dutch colonialists and belonged to the Kandy royal family. The returned items include Lewke's cannon, two gold kastanes (ceremonial swords), a silver kastane, a Sinhalese dagger, and two firearms. (Photo by Akila Jayawardena/NurPhoto)
