(231219) -- JINZHAI, Dec. 19, 2023 (Xinhua) -- Wan Shankun (L) and Jin Chongjun observe the icing condition of a simulated transmission line at an ice observation station in Huangfan Village, Jinzhai County, Lu'an City, east China's Anhui Province, Dec. 18, 2023. Huangfan Village is situated deep in the Dabie Mountains. Due to the recent rainfall and snowfall, some power transmission lines crossing Dabie Mountains experienced icing. To ensure safety operation, power supply technicians Wan Shankun, who was born in the 1980s, and Jin Chongjun, who was born in the 1990s, conducted daily inspections of power transmission lines and removed chunks of ice on the lines at an ice observation station in Huangfan Village. The Baoji-Chengdu Railway, a key line linking Baoji in northwest China's Shaanxi Province with Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province, was opened in 1958 as China's first electrified railway line. Limited by terrain and construction conditions, trains running on the railway can not exceed the speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour. However, for the people living in the hinterland of the Qinling Mountains, this railway is indispensable and has been greatly promoting the development of education, agriculture and tourism in the area. During the current Spring Festival travel rush, more than 200 staff members from China Railway Xi'an Group Co., Ltd. are working along the line to ensure the safe and smooth operation of passing trains. To ensure power supply amid extreme weather, a drone and a smart deicing robot were adopted in the maintenance work. The drone, acting as a transporter, accurately placed the robot on the power line.
