Gathering Against The 'Darmanin' Law Against Immigration
A girl is holding a placard that reads 'Teaching the French language to help, not to control!' A gathering is taking place in Toulouse, France, on December 18, 2023, against the planned 'Darmamin' law by the French Ministry of Interior on immigration, refugees, and migrants. The planned law would drastically limit or even stop state medical aid, social security, and social benefits to refugees or migrants arriving in France. Many people are protesting against this law for various reasons. Medical workers are opposing the suspension or suppression of state medical aid, arguing that it is better to treat an illness before it becomes too late or costly to cure. Entrepreneurs are also against the law, stating that they need this workforce for low-paid or seasonal jobs. Teachers are protesting as well, since the knowledge of the French language would become mandatory; they argue that resources are insufficient to teach the French language to newcomers in France, including children.
