Severe dust pollution adds to commuters' woes on the road, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, January 5, 2024. Dust pollution reaches an alarming stage in Dhaka and many deaths as well as several million cases of illness occur every year due to the poor air quality. Dhaka has long been grappling with air pollution issues. Its air quality usually turns unhealthy during winter and improves during monsoon. With the advent of winter, the city's air quality starts deteriorating sharply due to the massive discharge of pollutant particles from construction works, rundown roads, brick kilns and other sources. Bangladesh’s overcrowded capital city has topped the list of cities with most polluted air.The city’s air was classified as “unhealthy” at 9.05am on December 29, 2023, with an AQI score of 186.
