Farmers Protest In Toulouse
Riot police are evicting farmers after they tried to break into the building housing the ADEME, Adour-Garonne water agency, and OFB agency in Toulouse, France, on January 16, 2024. The FDSEA and JA farmers' unions have called their members to protest in Toulouse, as well as in other parts of France, urging the government for assistance. Farmers are arriving with their tractors to join the protest. They are blocking the streets during the demonstration, protesting against the increase in water usage fees, taxes on biocides, and the implementation of the EGAlim law. They are also demanding that the French government ''cut the red tape.'' Farmers are pouring manure and waste at the entrance of the building, which houses several agencies related to agriculture: ADEME (for efficient energy use), the Adour-Garonne water agency, and the OFB (French Office for Biodiversity). Some farmers have attempted to break into the building but were stopped by Gendarmerie and Police officers. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
