29th anniversary of Great Hanshin Earthquake
A paper lantern with the word "Noto" written on it is lit during a memorial ceremony in a park in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, on Jan. 17, 2024, the 29th anniversary of the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake in the western Japan city and its vicinity that killed more than 6,000 people. A strong earthquake hit central Japan's Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas on New Year's Day.
