The Comoros' Supreme Court confirmed on Wednesday the victory of incumbent President Azali Assoumani in the presidential election held on Jan. 14.
According to the official account, Assoumani received 57.02 percent of the votes cast, or 99,541 votes, exceeding the 50 percent threshold required for winning the first round. Six candidates ran in the presidential election in the island country in the western Indian Ocean.
The candidates Salim Issa Abdallah and Daoudou Abdallah Mohamed came second and third with 11.07 percent and 10.23 percent of the votes, respectively.
Of the 338,940 registered voters, 191,297 took part in the ballot, representing a turnout of 56.44 percent, while the number of votes cast validated by the Supreme Court was
