Protest Against The Self-nomination Of The City Of Trino Vercellese To Host The National Nuclear Waste Site

A general view of the Galileo Ferraris thermoelectric power plant is being seen in Trino Vercellese, Italy, on February 3, 2024. Built between 1991 and 1997, the plant was originally intended to be the second electronuclear plant in Trino but was converted to its current configuration following the 1987 referendum that led to the abandonment of nuclear energy in Italy. The former plant is now among the potential sites being considered to host the single national repository for radioactive waste. With 51 areas deemed suitable across various provinces, Trino Vercellese has submitted a self-nomination to host the repository. (Photo by Mauro Ujetto/NurPhoto)
