Syria Earthquake Anniversary - Idlib
A year after the devastating earthquake in Syria, hundreds of orphans left in its wake face ongoing struggles. This report sheds light on children like Yasmine, a ten-year-old from Homs, who lost her entire family of six in the disaster. Suffering from poor vision, Yasmine now resides with her uncle and grandmother in Jindires camps in northern Syria. The report examines the response of humanitarian organizations to the plight of these orphans and the assistance provided over the past year.. On February 2, 2024, the Syrian Civil Defense, in partnership with artist Salam Hamid, launched an initiative to paint murals on walls in areas impacted by the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, affecting southern Turkey and northern Syria. Recently, Salam Hamid created a poignant mural on a school wall in Jindires, capturing the Syrian experience during the disaster. The artwork portrays a child trapped under rubble, surrounded by debris, with the phrase "Syria Earthquake" written beside it. Photo by Bilal Alh
