People are dressing up in costume during the Carnival of Masks and Costumes in Culhuacan, Mexico City, on the eve of the Holy Week celebrations in the capital. The celebrations, which have a pagan origin and are full of music, dances, theatrical performances, colors, and gastronomy, were brought to America by the Spanish and Portuguese from the 15th century onwards.
