The Devil Of Tufara

The Devil Of Tufara

Masked boys are dancing before the city tour in Tufara, Italy, on February 13, 2024. Shrove Tuesday is being celebrated as tradition dictates in Tufara, a small village in Molise. The Tufara carnival is famous because the soul of the party is the Devil, a man who is wearing a papier-mache mask with a long tongue and is dressed in a costume made with goat skins. The Devil of Tufara is appearing at the beginning of the celebrations and is screaming, running, and wriggling to scare the crowd. The creature is always accompanied by two Elves and two Reapers with whom he enjoys forming gangs and making noise in the alleys of the village. (Photo by Davide Pischettola/NurPhoto)
