(240221) -- BEIJING, Feb. 21, 2024 (Xinhua) -- An aerial panoramic drone photo taken on Jan. 24, 2024 shows a coastal view of Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province. Since the 1980s, Xiamen has spared no efforts in ecological restoration in the city. So far, Xiamen authorities have launched five campaigns aimed at Yundang Lake's ecological restoration. Now with six different parks, the lake area has virtually become a "recreational center" for residents. The experience gained in the process was later put into use in similar endeavors in other parts of the city. The improved environment has provided new opportunities of economic development for the city and better natural resources for the people. (Xinhua/Jiang Kehong)

Dongting Lake in central China's Hunan Province is the second-largest freshwater lake in the country. Located on the central region of the Dongting Lake, Datong Lake is known as "the heart of the Dongting". Due to disorder aquaculture development, the water quality of Datong Lake was once seriously deteriorated. In January 2018, an aquatic vegetation planting project was launched in Datong Lake area, with a team from Wuhan University providing technical guidance. In order to support the comprehensive water environment management and ecological industry development of Datong Lake, a scientific workstation was established here in April 2019. Li Yang, a postdoctoral fellow from Wuhan University, has been working at Datong Lake since 2018.
