Nepali Buddhists Mark The Festival Of Samyak Mahadan

A Nepali Buddhist devotee is smiling as he stands between two idols of Buddha that are being brought to Nagbaha in the ancient city of Lalitpur for the Samyak Mahadan on March 14, 2024. Observed every five years, the Vihars within the Kathmandu Valley are bringing all the idols of Buddha, followed by thousands of devotees who are queuing to worship and offer alms. This festival has been celebrated in Lalitpur for more than seven centuries, having started from Nepal Sambat 135 or 1015 AD, during the Licchivi Period of Nepal's ancient history.
