China: Massive Wildfire Engulfs Forests And Mountains In Ya Jiang

A massive wind-fueled fire that lasted for days in Ya Jiang, Ganzi, Sichuan, from March 15 has been partly extinguished. On March 16, gusts exceeding Grade 8 on the Beaufort scale reignited the flames, leading to a rapid spread of the fire. By March 17, the blaze had spread, forming three separate fire fronts moving from south to north. Video filmed on March 17 in the afternoon shows the fast-moving blaze spreading to multiple mountains and the firefighters working on the spot. According to local media, 3,396 residents affected by the blaze have been relocated, and no reported casualties. Over 1,200 firefighters are tirelessly battling the blaze and the flames at Firefront 1 are extinguished. The firefighters now (March 18) redirect to Firefront 2. Some reports suggest that the fire may have been triggered by strong winds. The investigations by the local authorities into the exact cause are ongoing.
