Azerbaijani Forces Fire At Armenian Positions In Tavush Province

Tires line the road connecting Movses village to Aygepar to protect cars from sniper fire on April 6, 2024, in Movses Village, Tavush, Armenia. The road has become increasingly dangerous for those traveling between the two villages, forced to risk being shot at or take a much longer alternative route. During the night of April 5th and 6th, starting around 23:00 and lasting until 6:00 am, Azerbaijan military positions opened fire from various calibers on Movses village, located in Tavush Province. Each hour, at approximately the same time, gunfire persisted for roughly 5 to 15 seconds. The village sustained damage, including to the cemetery and homes of its residents. According to locals, this marked the first instance of such shooting in Movses since July 2020. Azerbaijan has been calling on Armenia to cede control of four border villages north of Movses that have been controlled since the 1990s as efforts to reach a normalization deal including border delimitation stall.
