Columbia University Calls For Arrests Of Scores Of Pro-Palestine Students
Police are closely guarding the movements on the Columbia University campus in New York City, USA, on April 18, 2024, allowing only those with university identification to enter. Pro-Palestine and Pro-Israel demonstrators are protesting both inside and outside the locked gates of the campus. Earlier today, Columbia University President Minouche Shafik called the NYPD onto the campus to arrest scores of pro-Palestine students who were refusing to dismantle protest encampments on the main campus quad. This standoff and the arrests come one day after President Shafik faced questions before Congress regarding campus antisemitism and the enforcement of rules against protests. The demonstrators are demanding divestment from Israel amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza War. (Photo by Melissa Bender/NurPhoto)
