Almost 450,000 People Have Fled Rafah In A Week - Gaza
Displaced Palestinians from Rafah set up a tent in Khan Yunis in Gaza on May 12, 2024. Nearly 450,000 people have been displaced from Rafah since May 6, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Hundreds of people have left their homes carrying essential belongings with them to the displacement camps set up in Khan Yunis ahead of a wide military operation by Israel on Rafah town in Gaza, despite the growing pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to accept the proposed truce with Hamas and start a ceasefire. However, the Israeli war cabinet has persisted in going ahead with the operation in Rafah. The United Nations and humanitarian agencies have warned that the operation will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe in the already devastated areas in the Gaza Strip.
