Animal India - Passer Domesticus
The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a bird of the sparrow family Passeridae. It is strongly associated with human habitation and can live in urban or rural settings. Although found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands, grasslands, polar regions, and hot, dry deserts far from human development. It is a small bird with a typical length of 16 cm and a mass of 24-39.5 g. According to a recent study by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), house sparrows in India have shown a declining trend in recent decades. To raise awareness and protect house sparrows, World Sparrow Day is observed every year on March 20. A male house sparrow is perched on a bamboo stick in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on May 28, 2024.
