Summer solstice, with the longest day and shortest night of a year, is Latvians' largest family festival, which is usually celebrated outside of city by bonfires. The Latvian midsummer celebration is called either Ligo or Jani. Ligo refers to the midsummer night (June 23) whereas Jani is the following day (June 24).
