"Laowai" in China | An Ethiopian student's vocational education journey in north China's Tianjin

Tola Tsegaye Alemu, a 34-year-old Ethiopian, is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Tianjin University of Technology and Education in China. He began studying in China in 2019 for his master's degree, and chose to stay on for his doctorate upon graduating in 2022. Tola Tsegaye Alemu's connection with China can be traced back to the time when he met a Luban Workshop teacher from China in Ethiopia. Feeling the impact of vocational education on African youth, he decided to come to China to further his education. "Luban Workshop is a great opportunity for African young people to learn skills. It not only provides training courses but also unique teaching methods," said Tola Tsegaye Alemu.
