Japan PM cancels Central Asia, Mongolia trip over megaquake advisory
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida meets the press in Tokyo on Aug. 9, 2024, following his decision to cancel a planned four-day trip to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia. The move came after Japan's weather agency issued its first-ever advisory on a higher-than-usual probability of a megaquake around the Nankai Trough, following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in the country's southwest.
