Tlaxcala Breaks Guinness Record By Distributing Free Basket Tacos In Mexico
Authorities from the State of Tlaxcala in Mexico, the Ministry of Tourism, and vendors of basket tacos are breaking the Guinness Record by distributing more than 30 thousand basket tacos in more than 183 varieties for free on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, Mexico, on August 11, 2024.
The project is seeking to break a world record and share the culinary legacy of Tlaxcala, involving taqueros from the state to offer attendees an authentic Mexican culinary experience.
Basket tacos are usually filled with different stews. The traditional ones are potato, beans, adobo, and pork rinds, although there are also beans with chorizo, beans with green sauce, among many others. It should be noted that they are going in the basket because that way they stay warm. According to historical data, it is known that they have their origins in the Porfiriato era, when tacos were sold in baskets to keep them warm, especially in the city. The traditional place for basket tacos is located in San Vicente Xiloxochitla, Tlaxcala
