At approximately 11:05 p.m. on Monday evening inside 44 Market Street in Manhattan, New York, Ying Zhu Liu suffers a gunshot wound to the head and is pronounced dead at the scene. Two suspects follow Liu's husband into an apartment building and try to rob him, although the robbery is interrupted by Ying Zhu Liu, who hears the disturbance in the hallway. Ying Zhu Liu walks outside of the apartment into the hallway with the couple's son, where she is shot and killed. The suspects escape from the building from the eighth floor with the husband's phone.
