Lymantriinae - Tussock Moth Larva - Animal India
The Lymantriinae (formerly known as the Lymantriidae) are a subfamily of moths in the family Erebidae, commonly referred to as tussock moths. They are primarily found in the Nearctic, Palearctic, and Indo-Australian regions. The name ''tussock'' refers to the larvae, which are typically hairy, with prominent tufts of hair, or tussocks, on their backs. A tussock moth (Lymantriinae) caterpillar was spotted crawling on a leaf in the forest at Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 17, 2024.
