Counting Of Votes For Jammu And Kashmir State Assembly Elections 2024

Tariq Hameed Karra, regional President of the Indian National Congress (INC) party, shows a victory sign after winning in the assembly election in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on October 8, 2024. Supporters of the NC and INC parties celebrate as their party candidates lead in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls. The counting for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls is underway, with 873 candidates contesting 90 seats. These are the first Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls held in 10 years and also the first since the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which ends the semi-autonomous character of the region on August 5, 2019, and downgrades and divides Jammu and Kashmir state into two federally administered union territories of J&K and Ladakh.
