Lagos Launches TB Steering Committee And STOP TB Partnership
Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State, inducts Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, as a member of the Lagos State TB Steering Committee. Lagos State aims to address the issue of Tuberculosis (TB) at the grassroots level by inducting TB Champions/Ambassadors and inaugurating the Lagos State TB Steering Committee and the Lagos STOP TB Partnership in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, on October 8, 2024. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos, cites the World Health Organization's Global Tuberculosis Report 2023, stating, ''In 2022, an estimated 10.6 million people (5.8 million men, 3.5 million women, and 1.3 million children) fall ill with TB worldwide, 2,480,000 people with TB in Africa with one person every 30 seconds, and 479,000 people with TB disease in Nigeria in 2023 and 18,541 Lagosians with TB in 2023.''
