Omar Abdullah Wins From Two Assembly Constituencies In Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) party leader Omar Abdullah (C) is greeted by supporters with garlands at his residence in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on October 9, 2024, a day after his victory in the local assembly elections. These are the first Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls held after 10 years and also the first since the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which ends the semi-autonomous character of the region on August 5, 2019, and downgrades and divides Jammu and Kashmir state into two federally administered union territories of J&K and Ladakh. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) party contests elections in alliance with the Indian National Congress (INC), winning 48 seats. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
