Istanbul shuts down metro stations, roads, squares, bans protests for 4 days

The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced Wednesday that several metro stations, tram services, squares and roads have been temporarily closed as a four-day protest ban takes effect following the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, on March 19, 2025. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, key rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan detained a day after university invalidated his diploma, in move seen as politically motivated.
