Pope Francis Visits A Prison On Holy Thursday - Rome

On Holy Thursday Pope Francis visited with inmates at Rome’s Regina Coeli penitentiary institute on April 17, 2025 in Rome, Italy. Pope Francis met and greeted with around 70 prisoners, to whom he gave a copy of the Gospel. He was able to meet them and speak to them without using oxygen-giving cannulae in his nostrils. He was also greeted by the staff of the prison. The pontiff, who is recovering after 38 days in hospital fighting life-threatening pneumonia, had already been in the Roman penitentiary on Holy Thursday 2018.
