Scrapyard Fire Forces Evacuation in Almassora - Spain

Dense column of black smoke rising from a fire in an old abandoned scrapyard, on May 30, 2025, in Almassora, Castellón, Valencian Community (Spain). The fire affects a warehouse where tons of compacted textile waste are stored, which has complicated the extinguishing work and forced the nearby industrial estate to be evacuated as a precaution. The fire is being extinguished by six firefighting teams, two heavy engines, a helicopter, forest firefighting units and coordination teams. The mayor has convened an emergency committee and is on site monitoring the situation. In addition, the storage of this textile waste is under judicial investigation.
