Surrounded by members of the New York Congressional delegation and members of the 369th Sustainment Brigade, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson (Republican of Louisiana) presents a Congressional Gold Medal honoring the African-American men of 369 Infantry Regiment, commonly known as the “Harlem Hellfighters,” in recognition of their unwavering dedication to military service, cultural contributions, and bravery in the face of discrimination during World War One, in Emancipation Hall in the US Capitol on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Accepting the medal is Ms. Debra Gillett, Granddaughter of Harlem Hellfighter Sergeant Leander Gillett.
