Ceremony to Induct Robert Badinter at Pantheon - Paris
Ceremony to honor Robert Badinter, former Minister of Justice and President of the Constitutional Council, in Paris on October 9, 2025, the anniversary of the enactment of the law abolishing the death penalty. Robert Badinter, born in Paris on March 30, 1928, into a Jewish family that had emigrated from Bessarabia (now Moldova), witnessed his father's arrest in Lyon (central-eastern France) during World War II. He died in deportation in Poland. In addition to his fight against the death penalty, he worked to promote equal rights for homosexuals, strengthen victims' rights, and develop the rights of prisoners.
