Hidankyo secretary general in New York
Jiro Hamasumi (L), secretary general of Hidankyo, Japan's leading organization of atomic bomb survivors and winner of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, holds talks with U.N. Undersecretary General for disarmament affairs Izumi Nakamitsu (R) at the U.N. headquarters in New York on April 29, 2026. Hamasumi, who was exposed to radiation from the 1945 Hiroshima atomic bombing while still in his mother's womb, visited New York to observe the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
