Belgium: Fire Engulfs 400 Tonnes of Scrap Cars at Metal Recycling Plant Near Mons
A large fire broke out Monday evening, June 8 at Comet Sambre, a metal recycling facility in Obourg, near Mons, Belgium, igniting around 400 tonnes of crushed car carcasses. Thick black smoke was visible for kilometers, prompting authorities to advise residents to stay indoors. Around 30 firefighters from five stations responded, with no injuries reported. Lithium batteries accidentally mixed in with scrap metal are believed to have caused the blaze.
