US: Gold Mountain Fire Prompts Evacuations and Disaster Declaration Near Ouray, Colorad 2
A wildfire northeast of Ouray, Colorado grew to approximately 570 acres on Sunday, June 28, prompting Governor Jared Polis to declare a disaster emergency and triggering evacuations in several communities including Lake Lenore, Panoramic Heights and Peck's Trailer Park. Highway 550 was closed as firefighters deployed aerial retardant drops and ground crews worked to protect structures in steep terrain, with no structures reported destroyed as of Sunday morning.
