Japanese rice aid bound for Iraq

NAGOYA, Japan - A Japanese flag seal is put on each of the rice bag destined for Iraq at Nagoya port, central Japan, on May 9. The ship with a load of 10,000 tons of rice Japan has donated to Iraq under the World Food Program left the port for Iraq later in the day.

Loading of Japanese rice for N. Korea starts in Hakodate

HAKODATE, Japan - Dock workers began loading Japanese rice onto the 20,900-ton North Korean freighter Jon Jin on April 7 at Hakodate port, Hokkaido. About 10,000 tons of domestic brown rice produced in 1995-1996 and bought by the central government will be shipped to North Korea as humanitarian aid via the U.N. World Food Program. Jon Jin is to set sail for the North in about two weeks.
