Endangered wild horses on comeback in Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia - Przewalski horses, the last surviving wild ancestors of the domestic horse, graze on pasture in Mongolia's Hustain Nuruu National Park 100 kilometers west of Ulan Bator. Under international projects to reintroduce them in the wild, however, the herd in the national park grew to 84 in 2000, and is now about 140. The horse, known as the Takh in Mongolian, is roughly 120 centimeters high and has a short, erect mane.
