KYOTO, Japan, April 30 Kyodo - Video taken on April 28, 2026, shows a prototype of the fully domestically developed humanoid robot "Seimei" during a media demonstration in Kyoto. Waseda University and private businesses, including Murata Manufacturing Co., robot maker tmsuk and Aisin Corp., jointly developed the robot, standing 140 centimeters tall and weighing 49 kilograms. According to Murata officials, the unicycle-riding robot, designed in the form of a kindergarten girl, can ride the unicycle backward and forward. The robot can also keep itself in balance without falling in a stationary pose. The two robots can be viewed by the public at the CEATEC Japan 2008 exhibition to open at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on Sept. 30.

                    TOKYO, Japan - A bipedal, chair-shaped robot developed by Waseda University and Fukuoka Prefecture robotics firm tmsuk Co. carries a model at the university in Tokyo on Nov. 21. The robot, which is 1.2 meters tall and weighs 60 kilograms, can walk at a speed of about 1 kilometer per hour.

                      OSAKA, Japan - A robot called DB, developed by a project team of Japan Science and Technology Corp., demonstrates in Kyoto on Aug. 30 its ability to balance a pole in its palm. The human-shaped robot, which is 190 centimeters tall and weighs 80 kilograms, balanced the pole for four minutes. The pole, made of vinyl chloride, is 4 centimeters in diameter and 120 centimeters in length.
