Photo taken on Dec. 10, 2022, shows a booth introducing the popular Japanese manga series "Golden Kamuy" at the Historical Village of Hokkaido, an open-air museum featuring relocated and restored buildings from 1868 to 1920, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in northern Japan. Many of the buildings at the museum are featured in the manga written and illustrated by Satoru Noda as the story is set in Hokkaido in the aftermath of the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).

New Hampshire to commemorate Portsmouth Peace Treaty

CONCORD, United States - New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch (front) signs a bill on Aug. 17, 2010, at Concord, New Hampshire, to designate Sept. 5 as Portsmouth Peace Treaty Day, commemorating the treaty which ended the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War. The memorial day was designated 105 years after Portsmouth, a city in the state, hosted representatives from Japan and Russia to conclude the treaty mediated by then U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.

A letter by him believed to have been written in August 1900 has been acquired by an antiquarian bookstore in Tokyo which plans to exhibit it at a Tokyo antique book fair to be held between Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, 2011.

Maresuke Nogi (1849-1912) of the now-defunct Imperial Japanese Army and his wife, as well as an illustration (L) depicting the scene of their suicides. The items were found with a letter handwritten by the general. Nogi, a hero of the 1904-1905 Japan-Russo war, and his wife committed ritualistic suicide at their home in Tokyo on Sept. 13, 1912, the day the funeral of Emperor Meiji was conducted.

The monument had been kept at the shrine after Japanese forces brought it to Japan during the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War.
