TOKYO, Japan - An employee (R) of Japan International Volunteer Center, a Japanese nonprofit organization, hands over medical supplies to Kangwon Province People's Hospital in Wonsan, North Korea, on Oct. 26. According to JVC officials, JVC delivered 2.4 million yen worth of confectioneries and medical supplies to flood victims in North Korea in late October. The money was collected through public donations in Japan, the officials say.

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. on June 12 marketed in Japan a completely redesigned, higher-end minivan hybrid (in photo), whose mileage has improved to 20 kilometers per liter of gasoline, a fuel economy comparable to that of a compact car, thanks to use of a smaller motor and battery. The seven-seater, four-wheel-drive Estima G with a 2.4-liter engine also boasts better acceleration and sells for 4.41 million yen, about 500,000 yen more expensive than comparable gasoline-powered vehicles, Toyota Motor said.

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. on July 30 released the gasoline-electric hybrid version of its Alphard minivan introduced in May last year, Alphard Hybrid. The Alphard Hybrid features a system made up of a 2.4-liter high-efficiency gas engine, front motor and continuously variable transmission. The G Edition in the Alphard Hybrid series is priced at 4.12 million yen, about 1.1 million yen more than the gasoline version.

Toyota launches Alphard minivans on market

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. on May 22 launched its new Alphard minivans on the market, claiming they are the roomiest of any minivan produced in Japan. The minivans -- the Alphard G and Alphard V -- are equipped with 3.0 liter V6 and 2.4-liter in-line four engines and priced between 2.65 million yen and 3.99 million yen.
