Rome Overwhelmed By Public Works Projects For Jubilee 2025

Works of restoration of the fountain dei Quattro Fiumi (of the four rivers) in piazza Navona are underway in Rome, Italy on July 2024. - Pre-Jubilee public works projects have overwhelmed Rome, with flood-lit construction sites operating around the clock, entire swaths of central boulevards rerouted and traffic snarling the city's already clogged streets. The frenzy of work has snarled traffic, to the fury of residents, and left some visitors this summer feeling short-changed as they weave their way through myriad building sites. In addition to the Jubilee construction, there's a longer-term, separate project to extend Rome's Metro C subway line into Rome's historic center, which has encountered years of delays thanks to archaeological excavations of ancient Roman ruins that must be completed first. - The Jubilee is a once-every-quarter-century catholic event that is expected to bring in 2025 some 32 million tourists and pilgrims to Rome and has already brought months of headaches to Romans.
