10 Iraqi orphans arrive in Osaka for int'l summer camp

OSAKA, Japan - Ten Iraqi children orphaned during the Iraq war arrive at Kansai International Airport near Osaka on Aug. 6 for a nine-day summer camp with Japanese orphans who lost their parents in the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake and others from around the world. Tokyo-based nonprofit organization Ashinaga invited the five boys and five girls, aged 6 to 17, to take part in the camp.

Orphans of terror, war, quakes gather in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan - Some 80 children from seven countries and territories, including some who lost parents in the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States and the U.S. bombing of Afghanistan, sing a song in an opening ceremony of their gathering in Tokyo on Aug. 5. The meeting was sponsored by the Ashinaga Scholarship Society and other organizations for the children to share their experiences.

Japanese, African orphans to hold joint concerts in U.S.

Man in news: Founder of fund for poor kids gets prestigious U.S. medal
